I've been thinking about b/w photography lately, because some of my pictures of Jane Britton have been published on the web -- The Boston Globe, The Wall Street Journal, and today The Spectator (UK). The cover of Becky Cooper's book We Keep the Dead Close is everywhere, and although it has a color wash and has been modified, it started life as a b/w negative. My new book, Shibai: Remembering Jane Britton's Murder also has a b/w picture of Jane on its cover. I learned photography in a b/w world, hardly ever using  color (it was expensive, and also home darkroom color work was very difficult).  All this should explain why, looking at a strongly-colored sunrise, I went for a b/w rendition.
